PEARSONS OF LIVERPOOL
In 2007 Liverpool celebrated its Year of Heritage, the 800th year of a fascinating and vibrant city; then, in 2008 it became the European Capital of Culture.
"After the War Was Over" is the most fascinating publication we have ever had the privilege to produce, and its content is unique! In over 200 images, it uses hitherto classified photographs of outstanding large format quality to present a view of the secret goings-on around Wavertree and Edge Hill.
Authors: (the late) Professor Alan Earnshaw and David Hayward In over 200 large format images, this book uses hitherto classified photographs of outstanding quality to present a view of the 'secret' goings-on around Wavertree and Edge Hill. Here, in bombed-out factories and on waste ground around Smithdown Lane, Overbury Street, Crown Street, Queensland Street and Falkner Street, a vast fleet of military vehicles were erected in great secrecy. Assembling crated vehicles sent across the Atlantic in the convoys, an army of engineers aided by old men, young boys and women, assembled a vast fleet of military might, initially from Canada and then the USA. This remarkable book tells the forgotten story, of how Pearson's of Shaw Street coped with this vital work, and how they were then reorganised for the peace times that followed.
This is a 144 page hardback, A4 landscape format, on 170gms art gloss paper with a hard back cover and dust jacket. PLEASE NOTE - There will only be a limited production run of 1,500 books for general sales. Once the UK sales of the book are completed, the printing plates will be broken, and no further books will be produced.
PRICE £25.00 plus first class post and packaging of £6 to UK addresses (Overseas at cost). This work is an amalgam of contributions from two well-known and widely respected author's, (The late) Professor Alan Earnshaw and David Hayward. Alan was a noted social historian and transport historian and widely regarded for his Britain's Railways At War series for Atlantic Transport publishers, whilst David is known for his work on both General Motors and military vehicle construction. Both author's were part of the editorial team of Vintage Roadscene, Britain's Leading Road Transport History Magazine. Added to the authoritive text are personal recollections from Liverpudlians who worked for the company during the dark days of World War II.
